How did I learn English?

I am Cristina Garanzuay Ontiveros, I’m from Monclova Coahuila and I am 19 years old. Now I’m going to talk about my English experience, because I want to let you know who I am.

Since I have memory I Love English, honestly learn English has been very easy because since I was a child and I was in kinder garden I took English classes, so was very natural to learn it. After that I continued studying in the elementary school “Colegio México Americano” , where my English progressed but when I entered in junior school “Instituto Central Coahuila” mi knowledge of English decreased, because I started again learning the same subjects than in elementary school , but I improved my English level.
In kinder garden, elementary school and junior school I took English every day , but in high school “CBTis 36” I just had one class a week . however my parents enrolled me in Birmingham Institute, where I finished two of the three levels because I had to move to Saltillo to study my career.

Well, I was writing about my English History, but now I’m going to write about the way I learned English .

Firstly, the teacher teached me the colors, the alphabet, pronouns, family members, clothes and objects all this as vocabulary, but this education was with images and games where we could know the easiest things and then start with the hardest things. In the elementary school I continued with regular and irregular verbs, honestly it were memorization techniques, we used to do the same many times until learn it. We usually learned ten verbs per day and verbalizing; then we continued with the verb “to be “and after with the auxiliary do and does for questions, affirmative and negative sentences. We saw the auxiliaries like super heroes, I mean, meanwhile the auxiliaries were in the sentence they protect the “s” and hide it , so in this way was easier and funnier to learn them. My teacher used games and crosswords to complete the objective.

The years past and we continued with others tenses like past tenses, the future will and going to, present and past continuous, comparatives and superlatives adjectives, and short writings.

But always we had to spelling every word and they organized internal contests of spelling to motivate the learning of other languages.

So, in junior school the teacher recommended me to do essays, listen music in English, talk about interesting topics and see a movie. Then in high school there was impossible have a progress only having one English class per week, so I enrolled me in Birmingham Institute because was attractive and interesting. They used many techniques like:
  • Read and listen an interactive cd.
  • Ask any doubt.
  • Answer the lessons
  • Study
  • Supervise and sign if you complete the above activities.
  • Take a written and oral test and passed without mistakes.
  • And continue with the next lesson.

They have many clubs like, conversation club, movie club, games club, spelling clubs, vocabulary clubs and verbs clubs, where we can practiced our English level.

Nowadays I am not a bilingual person but I have the knowledge to keep a conversation with foreign people. I love English and I want to learn the most as possible, but If would have the chance to study other languages I would be agree. Thank you for your attention.
